With the help of a matching grant from Full Channel TV, Bristol County's provider of Digital Cable TV, Internet Access, and Residential Telephone service, The Bristol Rotary Club was able to purchase, pack, and deliver 50 Thanksgiving Dinners with all the fixings for area families in need. The project was funded by personal contributions from the Rotarians to earn the matching grant...

On the Friday before Thanksgiving, a hale and hearty band of men and women Rotarians gathered at the Community Center to start lugging in sacks of potatoes and onions, cases of carrots, apples, oranges, cranberry sauce, canned corn and green beans, stuffing mix, gravy, soups, pasta, peanut butter, loaves of bread and boxes of cookies, bottled apple juice and, yes, pumpkin pies!

In less than 90 minutes one ton of groceries (purchased in bulk through the courtesy of Stop&Shop Supermarkets and Mello's Fruitland) was transformed into 50 Thanksgiving Dinners for a list of Bristol and Warren families provided to the Rotarians by the Town Welfare Directors, local Churches, the East Bay CDC, and Good Neighbors Food Pantry.

The finishing touch for each "basket": a $20 gift card to Stop&Shop for the Turkey!

On Saturday morning the Rotarians fanned out to personally deliver the cartons to each family... a task that every Rotarian agrees is the most fulfilling (and enlightening) of the year; an opportunity for true Service Above Self...
